Guest Mix No. 13: Nander

image

Sydney’s Hunter Gatherer imprint is one which we’re tipping to become a far more widely known name in the Australian electronic music scene. With three releases under their belt this year already (the first of which from previous Generic Cast contributor, Gardland), the turnaround and quality of the label is impressive. Nander (aka Nick Anderson) is the latest producer to release material for the budding imprint, with two tracks, ‘Steamer’ and ‘Speech.’ Both move into interesting, some what experimental territory, pushing the boundaries of Techno in the process. The mix itself contains a host of unreleased Nander bits - which we can only hope we’ll be seeing more of in the near future.

Guest Mix No. 12: Victoria Kim

image

Victoria Kim are yet to release anything, but that’s soon to change. The duo are set to release a 12” - which is available for pre-order here, on boutique Sydney based imprint, The Finer Things. It doesn’t end there however, with the pair joining the illustrious Templar Sound family, as well as having a forthcoming release on Breach’s Naked Naked label. Taking influence from a diverse range of sources, their sound is something which we think is best heard - rather than written about. Their mix starts off in somewhat unknown territory (for us anyway), before moving towards more familiar floor-orientated business. Enjoy.

Guest Mix No. 11: Coyote Clean Up

image

Coyote Clean Up is Detroit native C.J Sienkiewicz. Since moving from Cleveland at a young age, the Motor City has lured Sienkiewicz in - as the place does with many people. His music has gradually evolved over time from Hip hop indebted sounds, to more of a House influence, making the recent association with 100% Silk a perfect partnership. Sienkiewicz’s Frozen Solid cassette was released on the imprint last year, and is soon to be followed by a 12” on the LA based label. He also has a track forthcoming as part of Jimmy Edgar and Derrick May’s We Love Detroit Compilation, alongside a few other upcoming projects throughout the year. The mix itself is eclectic and varied, with a bunch of tracks we don’t know, and some that we do - making it another one for the trainspotters out there.

Guest Mix No. 10: Hurfyd

You all know Hurfyd - he’s that guy with the Youtube channel who really likes Adventure Time. Oh, and he uploads some okay music as well. We managed to get in contact with the mysterious character himself, and after harassing him for weeks on end, he finally agreed to do us a mix. Initially he just sent us a 30 minute looped version of this “tune,” before eventually agreeing to send over the actual mix. We had trouble understanding the tracklist since it was all in txt-speak and garbled text, so we’re currently chasing him up for a more clarified version. Until then, however, enjoy some unreleased UK Techno dubplates and help us celebrate our tenth guest mix.

Guest Mix No. 9: Gardland

Gardland is Sydney duo Alex Murray and Mark Smith. Started initially as a solo project by Murray last year, Smith was recruited into the fold recently, with the pair playing their first live show together last month. The mix itself may have more well-respected and noted names within the techno contingent, such as Silent Servant, Skudge, Marcel Dettman, Ben Klock and Basic Soul Unit, than exclusive or unheard Gardland material, but the way it is put together is more than enough reason to listen.
