Top 50 Tunes of 2012: 30 to 21
This batch of tunes sees releases on some of the biggest Electronic labels out, with Hotflush, Ninjatune, and 50Weapons, amongst them. There’s some serious floor slammers here - so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Darlene, Please by Tessela

Tessela seems to have one mode only - floor mode. So if you’re into “ambient rain vibes” then we suggest you stop reading immediately, and kindly go back to listening to your Burial rip-off. The Darlene, Please / Let Up 12” is rough, and relentless, with heavy hitting percussion that simply never lets up. It’s a formula that means Tessela probably only has limited home listening potential; yet almost unlimited floor-destroying capabilities. Use wisely.
Channel by Tessela

Punch Drunk were responsible for one of our favourite releases last year with the Illy / Tehran 12” by Kahn. Now they’ve come through again with Tessela’s D Jane / Channel 12” - a similarly thumping release. On more of a Techno tip than Kahn, Tessela crafts total floor annihilators on both the A and B side, that are an absolute necessity to any DJ’s arsenal. ‘Channel’ retains more of a Dubstep influence, with a heavy wobble, that really needs a proper system to be fully appreciated. Don’t sleep on this one.
